I have a hard time with the argument about them being fully clothed. M*A*S*H was a family show in the 1970s, and they just didn't show people undressed in that sort of context. The closest I can think of is in White Gold, when Trapper runs out of a tent with his shirt unbuttoned because he heard a fuss, but I don't know if we saw the nurse he was with, and in Springtime, when Radar's clothes are in disarray after he's been 'slaked' (the woman was nowhere around). Plus it assumes that the clothes came off in some significant way, which... on that floor? With all the dirt and falling bits of the hut? It's not impossible, but I'm pretty sure I'd be in a hurry to get my clothes back in order before settling down to sleep.
Like you, I didn't hear the no sex interpretation until I joined fandom. I was young enough that I didn't even know how sex worked, but I saw the kissing and the fading to black, and I was like, "Ohh, they did it!" OTOH, I also didn't know there was a second part to the episode until years and years later...
